Not much could be said of these cold ruins. The wind blows through the old and broken buildings of this once sizable city.

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyJeu 10 Mai - 17:13

Ambiance:

“Greetings, Kayné of the Fal’Or.

There is no need to be scared, you are safe for now.

I called you here because there are some things you need to see. Some things you need to understand. You have traveled far and wide, across different times. You have talents that are long lost to this world, and that makes you a unique piece on the chess board. The same goes for your friends. Each one of you brings something to the table when drawn together, something genuinely different. Different sets of skills, different knowledge, different perspectives too. And of course, different goals and purposes.

The entirety of what you all are is what allowed you to save one of the greatest cities of your lifetime. Or should I say "lifetimes" in your case? Every one of you needed to be there to stop it without risking the death of one of you. And, trust me when I say this: The death of a single one of you is a greater blow in the war we wage than the loss of a city like Dormnuill. Had I not been confident in your ability to pull through these trials, I would have made sure you were all very far from Danea when the city faced Oblivion.

In any case, your story is a very peculiar one, princess. Even to me, all things are uncertain. But I know you will be linked to too many coming events for me to not pay attention to your particular fate.
And so I must make sure you have an even greater mind. A richer spirit. Enough wisdom to make it count. Many things will depend on you, see. And when it matters most, I need you to make the right decisions.

To decide when to inflict retribution or to show mercy.
To let go of wrath or to embrace it.
To avenge… And to forgive.

And so I prepared this “Bubble” for you. The events which happen here are irrelevant to both of us. But, hopefully, after seeing this, you will understand. It is my hope that you come out of this experience as a greater person.

And…that perhaps, you will one day forgive me.”

Kayné opened her eyes. She was standing still, her boots in deep snow. It took a few blinks for her eyes to get used to the lighting. Turning around, she realized she was in the open.

Faelir's Rest Jason-12

Or rather, she was in standing amongst old ruins she did not recognize. A cold wind blew through the ruins around her, a reminder that she was, at least, alive. The sun was high in the sky, but did not seem to provide the huntress with any warmth. Come to think of it…

That was weird. There was something off with the sun.

Come to think of it, despite the sun’s position indicating the time of the day was around noon, the amount of sunlight in her surroundings seemed to indicate it was already late in the afternoon, almost dusk. Kayné soon understood the reason for the contrary signals her senses were giving her.

The sun was… weak. Barely strong enough to illuminate this middle of the day, let alone provide warmth in this cold place. One could look directly at the sky without any form of eye protection without risking any eye damage. It is almost as if there was an eclipse , but nothing was blocking the sun rays from reaching the Earth.

What a peculiar situation indeed.

Except for her own breath and the wind howling through the ruins, nothing could be heard around her. She was probably alone.

What does the huntress do?

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyJeu 10 Mai - 20:59

Music:

Kayné awoke, well, rather came to let's say, in an unfamiliar place, having heard an introduction from an all too unfamiliar and peculiar voice.

The change in scenery was radical. Before she had time to ponder any of the voice's cryptic words she first had to take in her surroundings.

To start with, the was a drastic change in lighting. Her eyes took a couple seconds to adapt. Despite the apparent paleness of this place, it was still considerably brighter than whenever she was before. Which was...? Ah, yes! Something about Nanonephar. Something about a dark forest. Something about saving princess Lucy from the undead and her blitch of a mother. Come to think of it, they had reached some ruins like those.

But those weren't it were they?

She quickly raised her eyes to the sky.

It was pale and empty, but still somewhat towards the blue side of the spectrum. Plus going by the sun, the time was probably somewhere around noon. All in all, this was a far shot from her previous location's perpetual twilight. At the very least this was not Nanonephar.

The temperature was an additional good tell of this, as she realized shortly after her arrival. While the forest she was previously in was no beach of Costa del Parasol, it definitely wasn't as chilly as this place.

While Jury's armor was not a bad thing to wear in this new environment, Kayné felt she could definitely do better. As such, she summoned her hunter's armor, for greater ease of movement and for the warmth provided by its fur.

Ka'clo:

She then readjusted the two blades on her side (VV) and the one on her back (Jury's blade), to make sure everything was in place and ready to go in case of emergency. An emergency that probably would not come any time soon, as the ruins around her seemed alarmingly empty.

Having no real time to think yet, she just made a few spins on herself to check her immediate zone, make sure there was definitely no danger present, if nothing else.

But then again, that voice, however that was, did mention she was safe for now. Going by her current situation, it seemed like trusting (or at least listening to) that person was her best bet. Plus the voice clearly knew much, way too much! More than any normal person would know.

This alarmed the young woman somewhat, who always had a tendency to tense up as soon as the words Fal'or were mentioned (ever since her waking in present Haerii). That was not a name people knew, that was not a name anyone knew in theory! That was why she had had such a hard time finding out where her village was or even if she were in the same world. It was something she herself dared not speak of, from fear of betraying the secrecy of her village and their ways. If none here knew about them, then it was best that it remained this way.

Yet this person knew of that. Even stranger, he knew of her, somewhat awkward time traveling adventures. He knew she was a princess, and apparently, he also knew something of her fate. He also knew they had saved Dormnuill, but that one made the papers, so slightly less impressive. Still, that person had the potential to be both incredibly dangerous and tremendously useful. He could become a mortal enemy that had to be slain at any cost, or a saviour able to reveal to her truths upon truths. Where is her village? What happened to her in the past? What happened to her in the future, if he indeed saw it? What was this whole talk of friends and fates and choices? It sounded pretty important, she figured she should ask.

Maybe, just maybe, the answers and that person were to be found in the ruins ahead. Time to get going.

Now then, where was that obnoxious wolf of hers...

Not here.

For some reason, this did not come as much of a surprise. She did not even bother whistling for him.

After all, if she had been teleported somewhere far off, whistling hard enough to call her mount would have been a feat worthy of the heroes of legends, and she was definitely not on that level. Not anymore at least.

Music:

As the realization that she was definitely nowhere near Nanonephar slowly settled in her mind, a new, somewhat dreadful question came to nag at her, as she slowly, carefully, made her way around the ruins.

If this was not Nanonephar, then where was she? Why?

Having gone through a traumatic experience not entirely unlike what she was experiencing now, she found it hard to stem her nervousness.

Alone? Again?

No. Please no!

Not again...

What was this place even? Was it even the same world as the one she was previously in?

It didn't feel like it! Not with this sun!

Had she jumped worlds again or something?

Had she... Had she turned into a crystal statue again? How did that even work? Was she now several years, centuries, millennia even apart from her newfound friends? The prospect was heart wrecking. But she could not allow herself to despair, so she marched on, trying her hardest to convince herself none of this was the case. That it was all some dream, some bad trick, an illusion, shenanigans of the Pathway if that's what it took.

Everything not to lose everything again. That would be too much.

Chances were, if this world was as dead as it looked at that moment, if she was the only person left in the entire world... That would have been too much for anyone.

As she explored the ruins, she tried to feel the pull of all her objects scattered around the world. To no avail. This did very little to reassure her.

Noticing her plummeting morale, her blades found it helpful to offer what were to be reassuring words.

Vice (purple blade, male voice): << Steady there love! >>

Virtue (white blade, female voice): << This does not mean anything! This has happened before! Do not let it get to you. >>

Vice: << Do not falter now. >>

Kayné answered them half distracted by her exploring and her thoughts. Their words had not done much for her stress but at least they had brought forth a sorrowful smile. Her mood was slightly better, a victory if any were to be taken.

Kayné: " You guys are right. It's just... I'm not at ease with this. But we'll get through this! Somehow... "

Determined as she may have wanted to seem, the fact remained there was not much to be made of her current situation. If she found nothing in the ruins she would have to seek a way out of them. Then a vantage point to scan the landscape. Find a way home perhaps.

Yet, she had a feeling, half way between a peasant expectation and the fear of finding out something terrible, that she had not yet seen the end of this place. If she had been indeed brought here, by someone, as it seemed to be the case going by the voice earlier, then there was something that needed doing here. They wouldn't let her waltz off just like that.

Thinking these thoughts, she found renewed strength and resolve. There was hope for her. She had not gone off to some impossible to bear world. She was merely toyed with by someone. Probably. Anyway, anything that was none of her previous assumptions was a good enough outcome for her, even if she had to fight her way over a legion of enemies to get anywhere.

About the next step then.

What would a Kayné do?

Although unsure, she shouted with a loud voice.

Kayné: " Hello? If you are still here, I would definitely like to meet you! How is it you know of all these things? What is it you want me to do here? "

She was not convinced she would get an answer, but she was convinced it was worth the try.

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyMer 16 Mai - 20:26

Ambiance:

How courageous. For a while, a rare uncertainty seemed to have struck the unstoppable Kayné. What would her friends say if they saw her like this?

Emilia would probably give her the coldest and warmest of hugs. Apollo would probably tactfully avoid mentioning her sadness, telling her to stop going alone to fight off bears in the forest while discreetly casting an incantation or two to lift her spirits up. Hell, maybe even the old Tessen would share some of his cheap wine with the huntress, one could dream after all.
But we would never know, for at that particular moment, Kayné was alone.

Alone with her blades, for her trusty followers would not abandon their princess. Such was her gift and such was the loyalty she inspired in them. As the Anaurites would say, "trust your steel more than you trust yourself, for steel doesn't make mistakes".

Does that apply to swords with souls, however?

No matter. The Princess would not let herself be beaten in such a manner. Gathering her resolve, she rose once again. She would not be beaten down so easily.

Ambiance:

Her first reflex was a call.

Kayné: " Hello? If you are still here, I would definitely like to meet you! How is it you know of all these things? What is it you want me to do here? "

As if to answer her, something rose from beneath the heavy snow, and rushed towards Kayné at full speed. Such speed. Such agility. A hundred kilos worth of muscle and claw plunged their way to Kayné, destabilizing her and pushing her into the snow.
A thick, humid tongue made its way through Kayné's cheek. Drooling, his three tails whipping through the air, and apparently happy to have found its mistress again, Ka'el repeatedly licked her mistress all over the face, apparently no longer worried now that he was no longer alone.

Finally. At last, some good news.
Kayné's call through the ruins seemed to awaken something else too, however.

Ambiance:

A few meters away from the princess and the wolf, something seemed to rise from beneath the snow.

Something else than a friendly wolf. In a sound of hissing metal and trampled snow, various pieces of an empty armor rose from the snow and assembled into an ominous construct.

Construct:

Even as it assembled, the construct seemed to acknowledge Kayné's presence. When the final pieces of its scaled armor and plated gloves came together, it pointed its spear towards Kayné. Voiceless, the armor assumed a battle stance, in the singular clanking noise of a hollow armor moving on its own.

The wind seemed to convey other similar noises from different directions around Kayné. Behind other ruined buildings, in some other empty streets of this ruined city, some..-things- seemed to wake up.

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptySam 26 Mai - 9:08

Ambiance:

As he broke through the last Hollowed, Apollo immediately turned to Kayné, and finally deemed it was a good time to answer to her.

Apollo: "That's done. We really should run now, more Hollowed are likely on their way, between your earlier call and your pet's howl, they'll want to storm this place before long."

As if to confirm Apollo's statement, a powerful horn was blown in the distance.

Emilia: "They're waking up now. Get a move on, people!"

The next fifteen minutes were spent getting away from the plaza Kayné had landed in, as quickly and as stealthily as possible. The Horn seemed to have awakened the sleeping Hollowed, as they were now awake and actively searching for something.

Probably them.

Luckily, all members of this crew were quite dexterous, and the Hollowed made for poor sentries, relying on basic patterns rather than intelligent thought. Had living sentries been looking for them, Kayné guessed the same would not have happened.

That being said, there were quite a lot of Hollowed. Crawling, running and hiding from street to street, the group had crossed paths with several dozen Hollowed. Fighting their way out of this place would've proven difficult.

Emilia: "Let's head for the sewers. The Hollowed don't rest there. It should be safe."

Apollo nodded. The group made their way to a sewer entry, and walked in without a second thought.

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyDim 27 Mai - 20:19

And so the fighting had begun, and so the fighting had ended.

Long story short Ka’el was absolutely fine, Kayné a bit less so, though her wounds were light and not much to worry about. She found it easy to move around even with their presence, though of course, at the cost of pain. That was to be the last of her worries however, for there seemed to be nary a moment to rest.

More enemies were on the move.

At least that’s what said a newly arrived Apollo and Emillia. A horn sounding the alarm moments afterward came as pretty good sign they were right. Although there many questions the young lady wanted answered, she refrained, turning instead her attention on the task at hand.

To start with, she dispelled all leftover equipment, leaving around only Jury’s armour and blade, as well as her white and purple blades which she recovered. While doing so, she took a quick look at their opponent’s equipment (because she is a loot whore) as to the victor’s go the spoils and after all, there armours were quite the stuff. Sadly however, running around carrying this sort of thing with her was going to make it difficult to escape, so she regretfully focused mainly on the weapons left behind.

[If she sees anything that does not seem like complete crap, she hogs it.]

With the technicalities out of the way, she was now more than willing to follow the siblings where they would take her. Along the way, she made sure to properly handle the white wolf, so that he would not gather any more unwanted attention.

As for the hollowed, as they were called, although they seemed decent enough soldiers, Kayné struggled to see them as much else. The ones they were passing as they went along, proved completely inept at finding them, despite looking for them. Furthermore, for all the straightforwardness and eagerness their comrades had displayed earlier, the lot of them remained painfully slow.

While of course she knew better than to do it, the huntress did think it would be fun to try seeing how many of them they could fight off as part of a glorious last stand or escape or other similar thrill inducing situation. On the other hand, she also thought that even if they were spotted, it would be piss easy for her and her beast to escape. Though she knew not if that would be the case for the other two and naturally she refused to leave them behind.

Most important of all, having the speed and agility to outrun a hundred armours is fine, but you also need to know where you’re running of to. Something that was definitely not her case at the moment. For all she knew, the ruins could be going on for miles, and since she had no indication to the contrary, they might as well be full of enemies too.

Of course, mingling in all of that, a terrible bittersweet feeling she tried not to deal with quite yet, waiting for them to be safe before coming to terms with it. She was happy to see Apollo and Emilia again. She was happy that, wherever she was, she had met them again. Of course, she was also overtaken with happiness at the fact Emilia was alive, for that is what she was, by all accounts. However…

Emilia was alive.

That alone answered several questions, the answers non-too pleasant. What were the odds that after being shipped off to Psarosoupa, the siblings enjoyed a new look over and stumbled upon some legendary artefact or person, capable of resurrecting the dead? That these two would change so much both in the way they look and fight, despite not seeming more aged than what she knew them to be?

None.

This situation was a mess. Her mind was a mess.

It was all she could do, to follow stealthily behind the siblings with her pet in toe. Watching the hollowed, watching her saviours. Lost in thought, she barely noticed further chatter going on in her head, her possessions bickering out the result of the fighting and trying to make sense of their current predicament no doubt.

Jury’s blade seemed to be ranting in distasteful manner, pissed at what she determined to be a poor performance from her wielder.

Jury’s blade (female voice): << Pff, to think this woman defeated Jury! >>

Vice: << Oh, not this again! >>

Jury’s blade: << Yes! This again! That was pathetic! Despite using me the Blade-cutter, being unable to chop off a single gauntlet? She should be cleaving them in half! >>

Virtue: << Bold words for an oversized toothpick! You should be glad you’re seeing use at all, the girl has myriads of blades at her call, some of them, daggers sharper than what you’ve ever been. So how about you shut the fuck up and try actually cutting the opponent’s armour next time? Maybe that will do the trick! >>

Vice: << She has a point you know.  We won’t… >>

Jury’s blade: << FUCK YOU AND YOUR POINTS! >>

Jury’clo (the armour Kayné is currently wearing, also with a female voice): << ENOUGH! You are being a disgrace! Jury LOST! Deal. With. It. To the victor go the spoils. >>

Jury’s blade: << BUT…! >>

Jury’clo: << NO BUTS. That is the truth. You can stay bitter forever if you like it, but you’ll have to do so on your own and stop annoying the shit out of us. And for that matter, I don’t think the girl did bad at all given the situation! Not now, not then! >>

Jury’s blade: << Traitor! >>

Kayné: “ Silence. “

As the master’s will was made manifest, the quarrelling equipment was forced into silent contemplation. Wary of her present situation, the huntress had not shouted, as she probably would have been glad to do in any other situation. Instead, she had but whispered it, turning on her side towards Ka’el, to make it sim as if it was intended for him. At least he, seemed happy to oblige.

As they at last reached the safety of the sewers, Kayné could not help but whiff a small complaint as she walked over the threshold of what was to be their hiding place for the moment.

Kayné: “ Great. The sewers again. “

It was more of an unthought complaint than something directed at either member of the present company. But with that out of the way, she saw it fit to start talking a bit.

Her first comment was for Emilia. Offering one of her brightest smiles, she went:

Kayné: “ You are so pretty! “

Not that she wasn’t in her phantasmal form, if anything that one had a charm of its own, however, Kayné always preferred the colour of life. All the more so, now that it was wore by someone she liked so much.

Not expecting that comment of hers to bring much information on her current situation, she follow through with something for Apollo’s ears.

Kayné: “ So what have you been up to? “

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyVen 21 Déc - 23:04

It was cold outside. That had not changed.

In fact, in the Huntress's estimation it was about as cold as when Kayné first arrived in the ruins, despite the fact she had arrived in the middle of the day. Proof again that something was definitely wrong with the sun here. As if this broken world's only source of warmth was fire. The prospect of such a thing seemed somehow… terrifying? Sad? Uncomfortable?

Ambiance:

But, at least, there was something good to this world.

The sun had gone beyond the horizon by now. But it wasn't all dark. There was…blue.

Deep, blue light seemed to light up the ruins around the adventurers, giving the stone walls and snow a peaceful, appeasing glow. The sky was pitch black, as was a large part of the ruins, still. Far, far ahead, beyond the ruins, in the distance, Kayné saw entire clouds that seemingly emitted that peaceful, deep blue glow.

It took a few instants to realize those were forests. The leaves of the trees were giving off this light, with great intensity. Had it been pure, white light, the intensity of it might've been enough to force the adventurers to shield their eyes, but the deeper color of it lifted the strain it put on one's senses.

In fact, it seemed like all vegetation was producing that same blue light now that the sun was gone. Within the ruins, the smaller trees and vines that stubbornly held onto what earth they could find between the pavements and stones, gave off enough light to give color to the ruins.

Give color, and give light. Kayné was not used to this sort of lighting, but the phosphorescent plants were providing enough lighting to maneuver and act without the use of torches. Many alleys were still plunged in darkness because of the lack of vegetation within the ruins, but it was most likely possible to journey through them without stepping into the dark.

Emilia noted Kayné's wonder.

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyMar 5 Fév - 19:47

[From:Faelir's Rest - Beneath]

Music:

Once outside, the redhead was quickly reminded of the everlasting cold that dwelled here.

Though she did not think much of it at the time. It was winter here, big deal. Plus of course it would be cold during night time.

But never mind the cold, there was much more here to draw away the huntresses’ attention.
Not to her credit, but the first thing she did outside was not to watch out for any nearby enemies, but rather to be amazed at the surrounding scenery.

Once her eyes got used to the lighting outside, she, perhaps instinctively, searched for the stars.

She was not looking for anything in particular mind you.

Back on earth, parts of the blue lights emitted by the surrounding vegetation, somehow reminded her of parts of the Terralumis forest she was just at. Though that was perhaps mostly Apollo’s presence at her side. After all, both this place and the forest filled with fairy lights, had their own, unique beauty. Both breath-taking in in their majesty, their magic.

Emilia was quick to notice her enthusiasm.

Emilia: "Is the night not the same in your world?"

Kayné: “No, not everywhere at least. There are some places like this actually! I’ve been to a couple. Places like these always end up being my favourite!”

She paused to consider.

Kayné: “If you tell me your whole world is like this then I may reconsider and end up staying after all!”

Pacified perhaps by the beauty of these unfamiliar surroundings Kayné had not found it in her to go back into battle mode for the moment. She was fairly relaxed even, all things considered.

Still, enemy territory and all that, doubtless it would not take very long for her to go back into sneak mode.

As she had no idea of where they were supposed to go, where they were, or in fact of anything at all, she let the others lead and simply followed them into the darkness.

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyMar 12 Fév - 8:00

The Cheerful Archer smiled in surprise to the Pathwalking Huntress's response.

Emilia: "So what is night like in your world then? Don't leave me hanging!"

Kayné: "If you tell me your whole world is like this then I may reconsider and end up staying after all!"

Emilia: "Well… There are trees in most places, I guess?"

The Cheerful Archer didn't seem to understand what the Pathwalking Huntress found so special about the scenery. To her, the phosphorescent trees were a common sight, apparently. The Erudite Book had to intervene once again to provide some explanation.

Vrael: "You may not know this, Emilia, but trees didn't always glow at night. I remember a time where Kin used the Sun as guidance and slept during the night, which was dark and unilluminated by the trees. Could it be that you come from a similar world, Kayné?"

The Huntress responded positively, to the Book's surprise.

Vrael: "Could it be that…The Goddess Shauntea is alive in your world? The First Mother yet lives elsewhere on the Pathway?"

The Erudite Book came close to Kayné, intrigued.

Meanwhile, the Benevolent Striker was being productive. He grabbed the net of incrusted stones which the Archer had prepared, and wore it as a coat, above his armor and the backpack he was bearing.

Apollo: "We can talk while we move, so long as we're discreet. The Hollowed don't like the light of the trees, so we'll move along the illuminated paths."

The small group started moving with the Striker as pointman and the Huntress closing the march. The Erudite Book and the Cheerful Archer stand at the middle, ready at the first sign of danger, but more importantly closer to the Huntress for an interesting discussion.

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyMar 12 Fév - 22:37

Kayné was happy to oblige, answering the young woman's every question. Except how kids are made. That would be for another time.

Kayné: "The nights? Back where I'm from? Well that depends, we still have towns, those are often at least as bright or brighter than your trees here. They can be loud places even during nighttime. In some people go to bed as soon as the sun sets, in others they stay awake the whole night and keep themselves busy with partying and other activities. The bigger towns never really quiet down. Some of them are especially beautiful at night time, what we having so many colorful lights bundled together.

In nature, the scenery is different, there are very few and dim light sources other than the moons. The omni present darkness cloaking your surroundings often hides monsters, beastly and humanoid alike. It is generally a bad move to roam around during night time. Compared to what I see here, I'd say nights in the wilds of my Haerii are rather lonely! "

The huntress then confirmed to flying book-san that indeed not all of her world's trees shone in such fashion. This intrigued the talking manuscript, for some reason. A history nerd through and through. Much like a certain Psarosoupean author.

When the question regarding Shauntea dropped Kayné proved remarkably useless.

Kayné: "Sorry, I am not familiar with the gods of my former Haerii. I only pray to one from my original homeland and only know the names of a few more. Ah, speaking of which, the Haerii I was at before I got here, that probably was not my home either! I think I was in an entirely different place before to begin with. Go figure."

Which begged a terrifying question which just but started to creep near the reaches of her mind. If she could go back, to which place would she rather go?

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyDim 24 Fév - 10:39

As they walked, the Pathwalking Huntress, the Cheerful Archer and the Erudite Grimoire exchanged tales of their respective worlds.

Vrael: "I remember a time like this in this Haerii. It was a long time ago. Before entropy got a hold of everything in this world. Before…"

As the Book informed Kayné, it seemed like the two different versions of Haerii were pretty similar at some point, with non-glowing trees and actual civilization.

Unfortunately, the Huntress was not as learned on matters of her world as Vrael was about his.

Vrael: "That's a shame, I would've liked to compare this very crucial piece of our history with yours. In this world, Shauntéa, the Goddess of Nature, sacrificed herself to provoke the last true miracle of Haerii. You see, nature was dying because the Sun had been grievously wounded and could no longer feed any life but her own. The trees were dying, and with it the rest of life in Haerii. Haerii was going to become a world of death. But the First Mother changed our fate by killing herself and feeding her own lifeblood to all the trees that rise from the earth. Nature itself changed that day. Instead of feeding itself with sunlight, Nature became a source of light itself, illuminating the world for other living beings to tread. On the day of Shauntea's sacrifice, a great many rules of our world were turned upside-down.

When you go back, Kayné, please remember this story and compare it to your own. If we ever meet again, I want to have a detailed report on the differences between our worlds!"

Go figure."

Really then! The Pathwalking Huntress had walked on three different Haeriis? Such an astonishing tale! Naturally, the Book and the Archer requested for more details, as the Benevolent Striker opened the way, ahead of the other by a few meters.

As her hosts had mentioned, night was safer than day in this world. The group continued on the path chosen by the Striker, illuminated by various roots, flowers, grasses and sometimes trees. The Hollowed seemed to have gone back to sleep, as Kayné couldn't see any. And, unlike earlier during the day, her hosts seemed to tolerate a higher threshold of noisiness. Soon enough, there was a shift in the architecture of the ruins surrounding them.

Kayné had arrived in a section of the ruins where only the skeletons of simple buildings were left. Small, simple squares and one-story buildings that reminded her of the ruins of antique villages she had explored and pillaged in her previous Haerii.
But the group was now progressing through what seemed like a city proper. Buildings were built closer together, and avenues and alleys formed a denser and more complex network of paths to take. Apollo did not slow down, however, and the other two seemed to believe in his guidance. Either he had a very good sense of direction, or he had already journeyed through the ruins.

Only the cold wind and the thick layer of undisturbed snow was slowing them down. The journey would have been simple on a flat cobblestone road, but progress was being made.

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyMer 27 Mar - 20:08

Music:

Things were strangely quiet out there. Well, actually that wasn’t so strange for this world all things considered but it would take longer for Kayné to get used to that.

As they walked in Apollo’s heels, the group kept chit chatting nonchalantly. Despite her better judgement, the huntress eventually dropped her guard as well in the face of her companions relaxed attitudes. Ka’El followed suit as well, he started bouncing around them with more energy and allowed himself a few muffled comments.

Intelligent as these wolves were supposed to be, he probably hadn’t noticed they were in a different world, despite all of the differences in this place’s nature. And he was happier for it. Ignorance is bliss.

Kayné had no such luck, but in her typical manner she would not stay down forever. Not yet at least. Bit by bit she was returning to her cheerful, energetic self. Good for her.

As they were making their way into progressively townlike ruins, the chatter veered to Kayné’s initial Haerii.

Kayné: “Well, to be fair, that’s more the only explanation I could come up with. You see, I spent my entire childhood and most of my teenage years in my village, never going further than the surrounding areas. I never did so much as change regions. We had a small village at the foot of a massive mountain, at the edge of a valley, behind a sea of trees. Truly a place lost in the wilds. I hated it for it back then. I wanted to see the world. Serves me right I guess!

Anyway, even though I never left the village until I was 16, people from my tribe would do so occasionally. Some were designated travellers and peddlers for the village. Some times they brought back maps, I got to see a couple.

The land mass on these maps, I was never able to find in the “second world”. And I searched a LOT! With the level of civilization, magic and technology available in that world, it seemed unlikely to me that such a huge place would remain unexplored somewhere in the world. Even though they DO keep finding new places all around the globe. This one is just a bit too big to fall in the “we found an island we missed” category.

Our home was a cheerful place nearly all of the time. We did not lack for anything, nature, skills and everyone’s efforts provided for all of our needs. We were primarily hunters, though some did enjoy farming as well. But all were warriors. We had a few spellcasters (father was one, the strongest actually) but most were on the side of bashing stuff with a weapon.

The only downside I remember to living there is a constant threat from external forces.

People came coming from beyond the forest to try and steal from us or worse, subjugate our people. The village seemed to be in a constant state of warfare. Bandits, slavers, armies from other nations searching for gods know what. They kept popping at our door one after the other.

In retrospective I am bewildered as to why we did not lose more people than we did, over the years. I guess we were really strong. Fighting as a family has its benefits after all.

I have to say we were probably built in a different manner than most humans. Or at least that’s what I’ve come to think since travelling in “second Haerii”. In my memories, most of us were “sturdier” than most people I’ve seen around. As for why that is… Maybe it was our lifestyle? Weakness would mean our death after all, be it from the cold, a beast’s fangs or the enemies.

Though now that I think of it… We were also the goddesses’ favourites. Not that she had much choice in the matter mind you, as far as I know there weren’t many other people worshiping Ten’Sei La beside our tribe. But fact remains, we loved her and she loved us back. So the legends go at least!
I will gladly share my knowledge of her with you if you are interested, but I’m not sure if this will be useful to you. After all we are talking about the all but forgotten god of some foreign unknown world.

I still pray to her by the way! Almost daily! Haven’t hear so much as a peep back in return though.

If I were to choose a moment for her to appear that said, I would have preferred she intervened to save the village from destruction way back then. Like your Shauntéa did.

What happened to the rest of the gods in your world? The events you described seemed pretty dramatic! Did they all stay silent during this cataclysm? What have they been up to since then?

Actually, how did the sun get wounded?”

Ah, there we go.

Curiosity triggered.

This had the potential to turn into an avalanche of questions.

The siblings would soon get buried with no chance of escape.

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyJeu 15 Aoû - 9:37

Ambiance:

There was a notable difference in attitude between Emilia and Vrael, despite both sharing the same attention to Kayné's words.

Indeed, the Erudite Grimoire carefuly listened the tale of the Huntress while the Arche drank in her words like thew were straight out of a fairy tale.

The Grimoire was genuinely interested in how history had unraveled in parallel universes visited by Kayné, asking for key details, situations and effects of things which existed or had happened in the other world, in a manner comparable to that of a student attending a history class.

Emilia on the other hand, displayed a different kind of enthusiasm. She seemed to only be here for the laughs, asking questions of lesser relevence, such as "Is Ten'Sei La pretty?" or "What's your favourite dish?".

Anyhow, everything seemed well and good with Apollo as pathfinder, under the somehow luminescent cover of the night.

Vrael: "As I said, there probaly isn't a living being who can tel us more about what happened on that day. Most of Kin perished by the end of it, and even the gods, bound by divine decree, could not stop the scheme which resulted in the World's first death. And if not the gods, then who? Men? Dwarves? Elves?
Day after day, as civilization goes to sleep and as Kin go extinct, the power of the gods wavers.

Today, nobody can tell if any god is still alive anymore. And Shauntea? She was the last to properly manifest, and life in the world... lives of Shauntea's remains.

And the wound on the Sun? Well, that's due to the Vespers, a clan of vampires who decided nobody could really stop them if they chose to get rid of the Sun.
Turns out, they were right. They managed to drain out the Sun, enough for it to stop harming undead and nurture life.
As always, all interventionists were too late to stop the deed, but the clan was obliterated for their transgressions. The world entered into a cooling period soon after.
In today's day and age, the word "season" doesn't hold any meaning any more."

The group continued its way through the inner city. Here, much of the architecture, in stone darkened by the passing of eras, remained. The Striker lead them through the inner cloister of a tall city building. In there, they found the remains of a large ornamental fountain and what was probably the remains of a once lush botanical garden. Snow fell on the cloister, to be then blown into the corridors of the deserted building.

Apollo: "I wonder what this place looked like in its hayday. We don't even know the name of this city."

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyMar 3 Déc - 18:27

Musique:

Kayné was glad to provide any information asked of her.

Ten’Sei La is (probably) pretty.

Her favourite dish is… well, hard to say really! She likes a rather impressive amount of stuff! Rathalos steak maybe?

She ended up concluding that in her case it is better to just go with her favourite time to eat, which is after a hunt (failed or successful). That’s when the food tastes best.

As for Vrael’s revelations concerning alternative Haerii’s history, Kayné was nearly left speechless.

She did not know of any Vespers. But she was in admiration in front of Shauntea’s sacrifice. And in disgust in front of the other gods’ absence. That apparently included Ten’Sei La.

If the goddess had not lifted a finger to prevent the end of the world, then why would she ever care or do anything for old little Kayné. Food for thought.

For another time. She had dealt with enough emotion today.

Apollo: "I wonder what this place looked like in its hayday. We don't even know the name of this city."

The huntress looked around the age darkened ruins, searching for any tell-tale signs of where they could be. Though she did so with interest, her conviction that she would actually recognize something, was reasonably limited.

Still, the left-over patches of what had probably been gardens did spring a couple of ideas in her mind.

Kayné: “This could be one of the old capitals. Nabu. Last time I was there I saw some gardens like what these must have been long ago. Though actually now that I think about it, this is probably not the case. That city was way bigger, but on the other hand it did not have as many tall buildings as there seem to be present here. Architecture wise… I have no idea what this could be!”

Such a shame that despite the heroes’ group originally having no fewer than two archaeologists, none of them were present in this time of need! The otherworlders would have to make due with a Kayné possessing the equivalent knowledge of a freshly landed alien.

She kept following her guide while looking around for any clues of where they were.

Occasionally, she would absent-mindedly pet the snout of her wolf, who was closing the march behind her.

Kayné: “Well, this probably isn’t applicable, but this whole place also reminds me of something else. I didn’t remember it straight away because I’ve never been there myself, but I’ve heard tales and descriptions of a land very similar to this one.

At the Noth-East of Daena, there is (was?) a country called Lucianne. The people I’ve spoken with, told me that it is a land of eternal night. It’s funny when you think about it, this is very similar to the country I was in before coming here. That one was locked in perpetual twilight. Plus, these countries are actually neighbours!

You would think that their unusual state would be linked, but apparently that is not the case! Nanonephar is locked in twilight because of some terrible magic cast by their evil king (or something, not really sure to be honest, the guy and his kids were major assholes though!), whereas the people of Lucianne apparently willingly plunged their lands into darkness for the love of the night.

I am not clear on the details, but a couple hundred years back, they summoned a huge Black Sun, which somehow casts night to the surrounding area. The thing floats above their lands and makes sure that dawn never rises on them.

From the accounts I heard, this had as a direct result for the landscape to drastically change, resembling now a days something like yours. Or so I imagine it at least. The travellers I’ve met told me about fluorescent plants and animals. Of crystals emitting natural light. Of rays of black light feeding creatures which would not make it in the sunlight.

A whole kingdom has flourished there since then. Though from what I understand it is a very unconventional one. Let’s see, what kind of trivia do I know on this again… Ah! It is ruled by three ladies, which have a terribly presumptuous title! What was it now… Ah yes! The Three Fates of Lucianne they are called! Long story short, there is no real government over there. The country is held together by three powerful factions and each of those has one of the aforementioned Fates as its head. One of them has something to do with religion. I think someone mentioned to me that she was a demi god? The second is the head of a semi-criminal semi-merchant organisation. That one’s also in the Council of the Sages I believe, not entirely sure though, my memory is a bit fuzzy on the subject, sorry Vrael! These stories were told to me over the exchange of generous portions of wine. The last one is a princess. A left over of some kind of royalty. If I am not mistaken, her origins are tied to a splinter faction of the royals from the Orchidius family, the rulers of Nanonephar.”

That would have to suffice to satisfy the book’s curiosity. On to the archer’s!

For her, only the funniest and most awe-inspiring stories!

How they vanquished Losstarot in those weird ruins near Dormnuill, how they slayed boomas and goblins along their travels. Their close encounters with undead, their victory over the Legion of Crowe. How they were crowned saviours of the world’s capital and then just as quickly betrayed and deemed outlaws. She spoke of their adventures cheerfully and with a bright smile, making the extra effort to make the tales as epic as possible. She particularly stressed moments where the siblings had shone. Sometimes she would embellish their exploits, but she did not once edit their embarrassing moments! Where would be the fun in that!

That said, she did take care to omit mentioning that there event where Apollo had nearly been impaled by a flying sword after groping Kayné in a lake. The mere thought of it made her cheeks flush red, half by embarrassment and half by rage. Yeah, no need to let these three know about it!

She kept running her mouth for the rest of the trip, at least when the context allowed it. Story telling was an interesting exercise to forget oneself and pass the time.

Speaking of which, only Teciel knew how much time had passed since they had begun their excursion. And that was assuming she was still around. Which she probably wasn’t.

Faelir's Rest Empty
MessageSujet: Re: Faelir's Rest   Faelir's Rest EmptyJeu 6 Aoû - 16:58

ambiance:

The Striker lead the group through the cloister, to come out on the other side of the building.

Indeed, despite some similarities with what she had seen in Northern Daena, she couldn't really pinpoint where she had seen any similar architecture.

Vrael: "Then again, several factors should be taken into consideration. The environment in which a building is made has a great impact on the design, as does the available materials. But these elements alone do not dictate the architectural style of a civilization."

Emilia: "Maybe the people who used to live here had different taste from what the people in your Haerii are used to. Who knows?"

The state of the architecture also made the further identification difficult. The building themselves were old, probably from before the numerous catastrophes described by the Erudite Grimoire.

Kayné continued her tales of her world, while Apollo continued to open the path. Soon, the group arrived on a large street which was bordered by a cliff. This steep cliff had been dug by the river that was flowing below, forming a valley in the middle of the city, and splitting the city in three districts; namely the section where the adventurers currently were, the district within the valley, built on both sides of the natural cliffs, carved by the river over millenia, and the fortified city which was standing on the other side of the valley, some three to four hundred meters across from where the troop of explorers were standing.

Upon seeing the broken bridges and aqueducts running through the valley and the broken fortifications, Kayné was hit by a revelation.

The architecture was different, probably due to a difference in age and style, as described by her companions. But the street layout, and the position of the bridges were the same. The fortifications she could see on the other side of the valley were spectacular despite their sorry state, and did not correspond to what Kayné had seen in her previous world.
But this particular vista was familiar to Kayné, especially the shape of the cliffs and the valley itself.
This was Dormnuill. Specifically, this was the valley that separated the Commercial, Transport and Commoner's Districts from the fortified High City, which housed the magical and political facilities of the Grand City.

In her version of Haerii, Daena was governed from across this valley, and crossing the bridges that spanned this gap required the proper permits or social standing. In fact, if she had been in her version of Haerii, the buildings on her side of the valley would have been high enough to take a peek at the Imperial Palace from here. No such luck here though.

Apollo: "We just need to cross the valley and we'll be close to our target." - He said, before pointing to a path that lead down the valley. "See this path? It'll take us down the valley. From there, we can find some place in the lower fortifications where we can climb."

It took quite a while for it to dawn on Kayné that she was once again walking the streets of Dormnuill. As her new (old) companions had rightfully commented, a lot was different, for a variety of legitimate reasons. Yet in the end the shape of the land itself betrayed the secret.

When she finally realized, Kayné did not actually shout in amazement at the mind-boggling revelation. Instead, she had a profound “oooh” moment, which totally showed on her face as she sat there awe-struck.

Look at this place. How the mighty have fallen!

Once she was able to gather her thoughts once more, she found it in her to share the discovery with her group.

“Guys? Actually, I think it is illegal for me to be here! I think this is the capital city I was talking to you about! Dormnuill. It’s the one we saved and in which we got betrayed by our group member during the celebration. The landscape is pretty much identical. “

At least now she knew for sure where she was in the world. Even though she still had no clue which world that was. In her mind, she just could not call this place Haerii for some reason.

Suddenly, looking at every little thing around her had way more of an impact, as every detail was clashing the vision before her with the one in her memories.

Streets filled with people and merchandise, now empty, ruined and devoid of life or goods. Shining, towering spires, big brand shops casting their shadows on the alleys. None of them here. Perhaps they had not existed in this Haerii to begin with.

While it was comforting to finally have a point of reference in this world, knowing that this WAS actually Dormnuill did not advance her situation in the least. It had no intrinsic merit.

Sure, the huntress had visited the city in her world on numerous occasions, but she was no where near well versed in it enough to be able to guide anyone anywhere. Heck, she would get lost herself most of the time! Though at the time she called those occurrences “adventures”. Hell, if anything, given their last passage from Daena’s capital, she almost felt like her knowledge of the city was now mostly pertaining to its sewers. A thought she was quick to wave away from her mind in disgust.

At any rate, even if she had known the city by heart, hell only knew if any of that knowledge would have been relevant in this version of the city.

Still, thinking back at all the sceneries they had crossed up until that point, slightly tugged at her heart. In truth, Kayné did not actually like Dormnuill very much. Although she liked people, events, bazaars and the like, this was a bit too crowded even for her. In the end she remained a huntress of the wild and big towns such as these, while entertaining, could not keep her interested for long. Furthermore, as it would happen, Dormnuill specifically was tied to its fair share of sad memories.

Despite all that, seeing it in its current state? It was a bit difficult.

Though she was unsure.

There was definitely beauty in the now overgrown and empty capital. It was only when she thought about the loss of life this transformation must have necessitated, that she set her mind on the old Dormnuill being better.

For a bit, she hesitated to share stories with the siblings. Here there was this brand. They sold this and this. They were expensive. Here there was an awesome restaurant. Here was a guard station. Here I saw a dear friend for the last time.

She thought this kind of tales could entertain the group further. But in the end, she did not speak a word. Why? Because there was also another possibility. What could would it make them to rub the prosperity of a town long gone in theirs faces? “Look at all the fun you guys missed on!” It seemed nearly evil.

In a way, this could be even worse if the city had never been prosperous in this Haerii in the first place! Then it would be like telling them: “should have been born in the right Haerii”. And no one deserves that. Especially not people who have fought tooth and nail to survive like this.

The time to descend was upon them.

Kayné would have preferred trying to cross one of the bridges if possible. But by the looks of it that would not be an option, even taking into account the group’s presumed teleportation abilities.

“ Do you think we might get attacked down there? I know you mentioned night-time is safe but I have to say I have an odd feeling about this. And what about once we reach our destination? Any chance the place will be protected by any leftover defense systems? Magical golems and stuff? Did these things exist here? “

Despite her suspicion, she did not hesitate to follow the rest of them on the path downward. Curious to see where this adventure would take her.
